Trip to Schoolhouse Beach
You and your great grandmother share a love for the ocean. Before we left for the beach, the two of you poured over her beautiful book of underwater photographs.

Two nights at Fallen Leaf Lake campground and a day at Baldwin Beach. Immersing ourselves in water and rocks and sky and trees and mountains—and watching this girl delight in the multicolor pebbles of the lake—was a joy. The night after we got home we were woken by thunder and lightening and torrential downpour, and fires started burning all over California. We received an evacuation warning, and packed up our irreplaceables. It’s been a stressful week. I’d go back for a dip in that lake in a heartbeat.

Turkey and stuffing and gravy and three types of pies, cranberry, mashed potatoes, cookies and homemade crackers and cheese—and crab! The crab was so good that we bought more the next day. These two ladies are the cutest together.

five!
Five months! When you were still tiny and new and we came across older babies, I sometimes thought, “I can’t wait until she's older.” I would scold myself for wishing time away, and focus on enjoying you in the moment. Now that we’re here, I wouldn’t go back—I love this age more than any previous—and I already feel myself mourning its end. It's a good thing you can't wish for time to pass faster than it already does. You also can’t go back, which is why mamas’ hearts burst open as their babies grow.
