One thing I love about photography is that in doing the work, I create a visual record of my work, which is rare. A lot of people work all year and don’t have anything physical to show for the hours they put in. Looking back at the images I made this year makes me proud and grateful beyond words. I like to think about all these photos out in the world, making people smile every day. There is a lot of heartache out there, but there is also a lot of joy. And documenting moments of joy is immensely gratifying.
Some personal highlights include our trip to France, trying my hand at studio photography and launching my intimate motherhood series, and photographing eight beautiful weddings—including my first queer wedding and a beautiful friend’s magical farm wedding—blog posts coming soon! I also got to photograph five newborn babies, something I would love to do more of in 2020. Also, more pregnant mamas, please. And farm weddings, know anyone getting married on a farm you can send my way?
I don’t feel like I have it all figured out, but I have found a wonderful balance between a career I love and motherhood, something I appreciate daily. Our baby is growing into a confident, cheerful, quick-as-a-whip little girl. Her current interests include airplanes, Maisy Mouse, chickens, trains and tunnels, swimming, and playgrounds. I am savoring this sweet time.
